The Heirs Insurance Hackathon 2026 is now open to undergraduate students across Nigeria who are passionate about technology, innovation, and problem-solving. This national hackathon is designed to harness artificial intelligence to transform Africa’s insurance industry by developing practical and scalable solutions that improve access, efficiency, and customer trust.
Organised by Heirs Insurance, the initiative brings together talented students, industry professionals, and experienced mentors to collaborate on real-world challenges facing the Nigerian insurance sector. Participants will work in teams to design AI-powered solutions that can simplify insurance processes and expand coverage to more people across the country.
The hackathon provides a unique platform for young innovators to gain exposure, sharpen their technical skills, and contribute to the future of digital insurance in Nigeria.
Eligibility Criteria
To participate in the Heirs Insurance Hackathon 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be an undergraduate student enrolled in a Nigerian tertiary institution
- Open to students from all academic disciplines with an interest in technology and innovation
- Participants must not be directly or indirectly connected to the Heirs Insurance Group
- Ineligible persons include employees, directors, family members, contractors, agents, consultants, vendors, suppliers, and affiliates of Heirs Insurance Group
Only eligible students who meet these conditions will be considered.
Hackathon Challenge Areas
Teams are expected to develop innovative, AI-driven solutions that address real challenges in the Nigerian insurance industry. Proposals should focus on at least one of the following areas:
- Claims processing
- Underwriting
- Customer experience
- Product distribution
Solutions should demonstrate practicality, innovation, and the potential to improve insurance accessibility and efficiency.
Prizes and Rewards
Outstanding teams will receive significant cash prizes in recognition of their innovation and impact:
- First place prize of ₦5,000,000
- Second place prize of ₦3,000,000
- Third place prize of ₦1,000,000
Beyond cash rewards, participants gain valuable experience, mentorship, and exposure to industry leaders.
Application Steps
Interested students can apply by following these steps:
- Form a team of three undergraduate students from the same institution
- Download and complete the official proposal template
- Develop an AI-based solution addressing one of the four challenge areas
- Submit the completed application through the official application portal
Teams are encouraged to present clear, innovative, and feasible ideas.

The deadline to apply for the Heirs Insurance Hackathon 2026 is February 16, 2026. Late applications may not be accepted.
