The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through its UN SDG Action Campaign, is seeking a Communications Specialist (IPSA-11) to lead strategic communications and digital advocacy efforts. Based in Bonn, Germany, this full-time position plays a central role in shaping how the Campaign engages global audiences to accelerate action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The UN SDG Action Campaign mobilizes people worldwide to participate in achieving the 17 SDGs through storytelling, digital engagement, and large-scale advocacy initiatives. The Communications Specialist will help transform complex policy frameworks into human-centred narratives, ensuring the Campaign’s messages inspire action and inclusivity across diverse communities.
Eligibility
- Proven experience in strategic communications, digital advocacy, or storytelling, ideally within international development or global campaigns
- Strong understanding of digital platforms, content strategies, social media, and multimedia storytelling
- Excellent writing and editing skills in English; knowledge of additional languages is an advantage
- Ability to craft compelling narratives translating complex global issues into accessible stories
- Experience working collaboratively in multicultural and interdisciplinary teams
- Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement integrated communications strategies aligned with UN SDG Action Campaign priorities
- Lead digital advocacy and storytelling across websites, social media, newsletters, and multimedia platforms
- Shape narratives on SDG action, systems change, and people-powered solutions to resonate with diverse audiences
- Manage communications for flagship campaigns, awards, and global advocacy moments
- Collaborate with designers, videographers, and UNDP colleagues to produce high-quality communication assets
- Support media engagement, campaign launches, and strategic partnerships
- Ensure all communications reflect UN values, including inclusivity, diversity, and human rights-based approaches
