The AMEL – The African Middle Eastern Leadership Project has officially opened applications for the Spring 2026 cohort of the AMEL Institute, its flagship online activist training program for emerging leaders across the Middle East and Africa.

Delivered by The African Middle Eastern Leadership Project, the AMEL Institute is designed to equip young changemakers with the skills, knowledge, and networks needed to drive inclusive and responsible social impact across the MEA region.

For young activists seeking a free online leadership programme in 2026 focused on human rights, civic engagement, and democratic values, the AMEL Institute offers a structured and fully funded opportunity.

What Is the AMEL Institute?

The AMEL Institute is a fully online, interactive leadership and activism training programme that brings together youth leaders from across Africa and the Middle East. The programme focuses on strengthening civic participation, ethical advocacy, and democratic engagement.

The Spring 2026 cohort will run from late March to late May 2026. Participation is completely free for all selected candidates, and the programme is delivered virtually to ensure accessibility across the region.

Programme Focus Areas

Participants explore key themes essential for sustainable and responsible activism:

• Human rights principles and international legal frameworks
• Peacebuilding and conflict resolution strategies
• Democratic participation and civic engagement
• Inclusive and ethical leadership practices
• Safe activism and risk awareness strategies
• Community organising and advocacy planning

Through live virtual sessions, facilitated discussions, collaborative exercises, and mentorship engagement, participants gain both theoretical understanding and practical tools that can be applied within their communities.

Why Join the AMEL Institute?

Develop practical activism skills
The programme prioritises actionable learning. Participants leave with concrete strategies for advocacy, coalition-building, campaign planning, and ensuring personal and community safety while engaging in civic action.

Build a cross-regional leadership network
The AMEL Institute connects young leaders from diverse cultural and national backgrounds across the MEA region. This network supports long-term collaboration and solidarity among changemakers facing shared challenges.

Learn in a safe and inclusive environment
The programme fosters respectful dialogue and inclusive participation. It creates a safe space where participants can explore complex political and social issues while strengthening their leadership identities.

Access a fully funded opportunity
There are no participation fees. Because the programme is fully online, there are no travel or accommodation costs, making it accessible to young leaders regardless of geographic location.

Who Should Apply?

The AMEL Institute is ideal for young activists, community organisers, and civic leaders across Africa and the Middle East who are passionate about:

• Advancing human rights
• Strengthening democratic systems
• Promoting peace and social justice
• Building inclusive communities

Applicants should demonstrate motivation for collaborative learning and a commitment to completing the full programme duration.
