Applications are now open for the 2027 KAS Scholarship Program, offered by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung e.V.. The program provides fully funded scholarships for Master’s and doctoral studies at accredited universities in Germany.
The scholarship is open to socially and politically engaged students from all academic disciplines who demonstrate strong academic performance and a commitment to democratic values, pluralism, and human rights. Applicants must also show German language proficiency at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference, with at least B1 required at the time of application.
Program Eligibility
The KAS Scholarship Program is targeted at young academics from Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. Funding is available for degree programs at both universities of applied sciences and traditional universities in Germany. Second degree programs, second doctoral degrees, and postgraduate medical programs are not eligible for funding.
Scholarship Benefits
In addition to comprehensive financial support, scholarship recipients gain access to a wide range of academic and professional development opportunities. Scholars become part of an international network of more than 15,000 current and former Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung scholarship holders worldwide.
The program also includes a structured seminar series that complements academic studies, with opportunities for scholars to organize their own academic and civic events. Participants receive personalized academic guidance and career mentoring from the Foreign Student Support team and trusted university advisors throughout their studies.
Required Application Documents
For Master’s Degree Applicants
Applicants for a Master’s scholarship must submit a completed and signed application form along with a letter of motivation of no more than 1.5 pages, a tabular curriculum vitae written in German, and copies of university certificates, transcripts, and records of achievement with certified German translations.
Additional requirements include a reference letter from a university lecturer evaluating the applicant’s academic abilities, proof of voluntary or civic engagement, and evidence of German language proficiency at level B2, or at least B1 at the time of application.
For Doctoral Degree Applicants
Doctoral scholarship applicants must submit all documents required for the Master’s scholarship, in addition to a detailed dissertation proposal outlining the research problem, methodology, and work plan. This proposal may be written in German or English.
Applicants must also provide a reference letter from their doctoral supervisor addressing the dissertation project and, if available, confirmation of admission to a doctoral program from the relevant faculty or department.
