The 2026 Sir Cyril Taylor Young African Leaders Program, hosted by the AFS Youth Assembly and supported by the Sir Cyril Taylor Charitable Foundation, is a premier initiative designed to empower the next generation of changemakers from Sub-Saharan Africa. This program selects 10 exceptional leaders to receive comprehensive training, mentorship, and seed funding to drive sustainable development within their local communities. The fellowship culminates in a fully supported trip to attend the Youth Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, providing participants with a global stage to share their innovations. For young Nigerians and Africans aged 18 to 35, this is a life-changing opportunity to scale social impact projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Eligibility

To be considered for the 2026 cohort, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 35 at the time of the Youth Assembly.
  • Candidates must be residents of a country in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Applicants should be leading a social impact initiative, preferably one that aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and a proven track record of creating meaningful change in their community.
  • Proficiency in English at an intermediate level or higher is required for participation in training and global workshops.

Successful fellows receive a robust package of support and resources:

  • Full participation in the AFS Youth Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, from August 12 to 14, 2026.
  • Access to the AFS Global Competence Certificate Program to build intercultural leadership skills.
  • Seed funding and professional mentorship to implement and scale local community impact projects over six months.
  • Formal recognition as a Sir Cyril Taylor Young African Leader and inclusion in a prestigious international network.
