University of Glasgow Opens African Excellence Award for 2026/27 Master’s Students

The University of Glasgow has announced the African Excellence Award, a fully funded tuition scholarship aimed at supporting high-achieving students from across Africa enrolling in postgraduate taught Master’s programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The scholarship is designed for students with strong academic records who aspire to become future leaders and change-makers, using advanced education to positively contribute to their communities and countries after graduation.

Scholarship Overview

Under the African Excellence Award scheme, the University of Glasgow will offer up to 16 scholarships to eligible African students. Each award covers 100 percent of tuition fees for a one-year postgraduate taught Master’s degree in any discipline offered by the university.

Postgraduate diplomas and certificate programmes are not eligible for this award.

Who Can Apply

To be eligible for the University of Glasgow African Excellence Award, applicants must:

  • Demonstrate academic excellence, with grades equivalent to a UK First-Class Honours degree
  • Apply for and hold (or be in the process of securing) an offer for a one-year postgraduate taught Master’s programme starting in September 2026
    • While an offer is not required at the point of scholarship application, applicants must have an offer to be considered for interview
  • Have international fee status
  • Be domiciled in Africa and hold a passport from one of the eligible African countries
  • Clearly demonstrate a career and/or development plan that will be supported by Master’s-level study
  • Meet the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) living costs and financial requirements for international students

The university advises applicants to carefully review individual programme application timelines to ensure they align with scholarship and admission requirements.

Purpose of the Award

According to the University of Glasgow, the African Excellence Award seeks to invest in talented African students who show the potential to become Future World Changers. The scholarship supports candidates committed to using advanced education to address social, economic, scientific, or policy challenges within their communities and beyond.
