The Center for Community Solutions Hiring Public Policy Fellow

The Center for Community Solutions has announced an opening for a Public Policy Fellow, a mid- to senior-level role focused on applied research, policy analysis, and community engagement to improve health, social, and economic outcomes across Ohio.

The position is based in Columbus, Ohio, with a hybrid work arrangement requiring at least two days per week in the organization’s Columbus office. Remote work is permitted within Ohio. The role reports to the Director of Public Policy and offers a salary range of $70,000 to $90,000, depending on experience.

Position Overview

According to the organization, the Public Policy Fellow plays a central role in advancing its mission by conducting evidence-based research, monitoring public policy developments, and communicating insights that inform decision-makers and strengthen community well-being.

The Fellow will work across health, social, and economic policy areas, addressing issues at the community, regional, state, and national levels while contributing to grant-funded initiatives and consulting projects.

Key Responsibilities

Policy Research, Analysis, and Monitoring

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of health, social, and economic policies, legislation, public budgets, and regulatory actions
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments at federal, state, and local levels
  • Attend or review legislative hearings and engage with policymakers and staff
  • Maintain expertise on emerging policy trends affecting priority areas

Writing, Communications, and Media

  • Produce reports, fact sheets, policy briefs, articles, blog posts, commentary, and op-eds
  • Translate complex policy information into accessible content for diverse audiences
  • Serve as a spokesperson and represent the organization in public forums
  • Use digital platforms and social media to communicate policy updates

Stakeholder and Coalition Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, community leaders, advocacy groups, and partners
  • Represent the organization in coalitions advancing shared policy goals
  • Influence public opinion and policy decisions through effective communication

Leadership, Project Management, and Organizational Support

  • Develop project plans and budgets; lead or contribute across multidisciplinary teams
  • Provide programmatic direction and manage complex stakeholder relationships
  • Identify innovative approaches to policy research and organizational processes
  • Support grant writing, consulting proposals, and resource development efforts

Required Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Master’s degree in health, social sciences, public policy/administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of five years of experience in policy research, analysis, or governmental affairs
  • Strong writing, communication, and public speaking skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legislative tracking tools
  • Demonstrated understanding of legislative and executive policymaking processes
  • Experience drafting or analyzing legislation and public budgets
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurability

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of health and social policy issues in Ohio

Work Environment and Expectations

  • Typical office setting with sitting, standing, walking, and reaching
  • Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds
  • Approximately 10 percent local and regional travel
  • Hybrid work environment with required in-office presence

The Center for Community Solutions offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:
